Linocut – “A Gilded Cage”

“A Gilded Cage” is a large original linocut, handcarved and handpulled on finely laid Hahnemühle Ingres pastel paper.

It features a lavishly carved birdcage, in a composition which oscillates between organic details and the rickety nature of antique objects on the one hand, and the lines and structure that perspective enforces on the other. As the perspective however is a fairly fictitious one, it’s grit lends a sense of movement and dynamics to the image, as no vanishing point is to be found.

“A Gilded Cage” measures approx 38 x 53 cm , and the paper 48 x 62 cm. It is printed on 100 gsm Hahnemühle paper, a paper with four deckled edges, and fine laid lines (a faint linear structure in the paper, giving it wonderful texture and a highly tactile feel to it ). It is printed with Cranfield Traditional oil-based gold ink, on a dusty dark blue and a very pale peachy-pink.

A small preliminary edition is available in my shop.
