Linocut – Maiden I

“Maiden I” is part of a pair, and is a personal favorite of mine. It’s a two-block lino-print, printed one layer on top of the other, and has a clear graphic expression despite the high level of details. The motif features a folk-clad maiden carrying a sheaf of grain, and is heavily inspired by fairytales, and laden with symbols and a slight sense of the uncanny.

“Maiden I” was carved by hand in lino, inked by hand using Caligo Safe-wash ink, and handpulled on an etching press on exquisite 300 gsm Somerset Satin paper. As a result each print is an unique and original artwork, and is signed and numbered by the artist. The paper measures approx. 28 x 38 cm, and the printed area 21 x 29 cm.

This print will soon be available in a limited edition of black and dove blue in my shop and on Etsy.

It’s companion piece “Maiden II” will follow shortly 🙂
