Linocut – Rite of Spring

“Rite of Spring” is a highly intricate and finely detailed linocut, featuring flowers, birds and insects. The style is expressive, and the composition circular and dynamic. Just like the change of seasons and the yearly rites, which perpetuates themselves with every new beginning.  This linoprint came about for the simple reason, that I desperately miss spring. It has been a long, long winter. And because I love the Ballets Russes, the avantgarde ballet company for which Stravinsky composed his orchestral work “Le Sacre du Printemps” (The Rite of Spring)  in 1913.

This “Rite of Spring” however is an original handmade linocut. Carefully carved in lino, and inked and printed by hand, using an etching press. As a result each and every print is unique. This limited edition was printed using black Caligo ink, on luxurious Somerset Satin 250gsm paper. The paper measures approx. 38 x 38 cm., and the printed area 27 x 30 cm.

The “Rite of Spring” is available in my shop.
